Amazing Avocados

Writer's picture: Denise WorpellDenise Worpell

I fast a lot. I eat breakfast. I also eat dinner. Fasting is just the time that you don't eat food. I usually skip lunch. This allows my body to process the sugar in my blood stream.

without having to add in a workout. There are just some days I want a snack.

The idea for this snack comes from another health coach friend of mine. We discussed it at one time. I decided to look it up and couldn't find it on his Facebook page. I kept looking. I found the temperature and timing for this recipe on hip2keto.com.

Ingredients:

- 2 large avocados

- 9 slices of bacon cut in half

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.

  2. Cut the avocado in half.

  3. Remove the pit and peel.

  4. Slice each avocado into 9 wedges.

  5. Wrap the slices in bacon.

  6. Place them on a baking sheet with a bit of space between each one.

  7. Bake of 20-25 minutes.

  8. Pull out and drain off excess bacon grease.

  9. Place each piece on a paper towel covered plate.

  10. Cool for 5 minutes before you enjoy.

Please enjoy responsibly. I don't recommend eating bacon often. You could even use turkey bacon. Just remember many red meats are more acidic and not helpful if you have cancer on top of being diabetic. The avocado is exactly the opposite. It has so many benefits like it is

  1. Nutrient rich.

  2. Healthy for the heart.

  3. Awesome for vision.

  4. Helps prevent osteoporosis.

  5. Full of folate helpful in preventing some types of cancer.

  6. Important for healthy pregnancies.

  7. Possible that it reduces the risk of depression.

  8. High in fiber helping digestion.

  9. A natural detoxifying food.

  10. Useful as an osteoporosis treatment.

  11. Full of substances with antimicrobial activity.

  12. Helpful in preventing multiple chronic diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, stroke and hypertension.

While I do like using Ketogenic recipes, I do not recommend a strait keto diet. Ketoacidosis can be a real threat to diabetics. You find out more by reading, "Diabetic ketoacidosis - Symptoms and causes" published by the Mayo Clinic on 11/11/20. We all need some carbohydrates in our diets, just no where near the amount found on most restaurants' menus or the center aisles of the grocery store.

Instead I've been working on some delicious, diabetic friendly cinnamon cheese cake muffins. This is going to be a great carbohydrate snack with an alternate nut based flour. It is less likely to spike blood sugar, but I know taste testing even stevia sweetened foods can cause a sugar attack. So it's really good to have another healthy snack available. This one's a pretty safe one when you need to be bad. I hope you enjoy! Please comment, like, share, and come back next week for more recipes, ideas, and tips.
